Avery Sharpe and Kris Allen honor one of America’s greatest scientists, African American great, George Washington Carver. The Duo project that Avery and Kris have put together to honor Mr. Carver, will consist of original music written by Kris and Avery, based on the life work of this great scientist. The inventions Mr. Carver gave us in the late 19th century and early 20th century are still be used by the world today.
Avery Sharpe has played electric and acoustic bass with jazz legends such as Wynton Marsalis, Dizzy Gillespie and McCoy Tyner. Sharpe played with Tyner from 1980 through 2002. He has also played as a sideman with Archie Shepp, Yusef Lateef, George Benson, and Cab Callaway. Avery has had an Artist owned record label since 1994 and released 12 CDs as a leader. Sharpe’s latest recording is “Sharpe Meets Tharpe, dedicated to the Godmother of “Rock n’ Roll” Sister Rosetta Tharpe. Sharpe continues to tour and compose and currently, is an Artist Associate at Williams College where he coaches jazz ensembles and the gospel choir....
